Wedding guest lists can quickly become a source of family drama.

AITA for not giving my parents extra wedding invites for extended family?
I (25F) am getting married later this year.
My fiancé and I are paying for about 80% of the wedding ourselves.
My parents offered their contribution. We appreciate it.
This woman’s mother wanted to invite some random relatives.
We are having a smaller venue.
We already had to cut down our list to close friends and immediate family. It was not easy.
Now, my mom is asking for four additional invites for relatives I barely talk to.
One of them is a cousin who openly mocked me at a previous family gathering.
This cousin tends to make passive-aggressive comments.
She refused to give her mom extra invitations.
I told her we simply do not have space.
And that we prioritized people who are actively in our lives.
She said that since they are contributing financially, they should get some say in who attends.
I offered to return their contribution.
I said we could do that if it means we can keep the guest list as it is.
Her mom is now accusing her of being disrespectful.
Now, she says I am being disrespectful. I do not want any family tension.
But I also do not want “strangers” at my wedding just to keep appearances.
It is our day, not theirs.
So, AITA?
Let’s find out what others have to say about this.
This person suggests giving back the money.

Here’s a good response to the mother.

It’s your wedding, says this one.

This user makes a valid point.

Finally, short and simple.
