Good neighbors should look out for each other and respect the people around them.

The following story involves a woman who was accused of stealing trash cans from a deceased neighbor’s vacant property.

But the truth is, she had permission from the family to look after the house and had only moved the bins after a windstorm.

Still, an anonymous neighborhood post accused her of theft and quickly attracted angry comments from other neighbors.

Uh oh! Talk about a toxic neighborhood. Read the full story below for all the details.

New BS from “you can’t look at my horse” woman

You guys… this is really just getting ridiculous.

I posted a bit ago about a neighbor who’s weird about us looking at her horses from our own property.

Well now, OMG!

This past January, our amazing across-the-street neighbor passed away.

Boy, do we miss her. Lovely, lovely person. Her husband went to live with family, leaving the house vacant.

This woman picked up the neighbor’s garbage bins during a wind storm.

We’ve been helping their kids get the house ready to sell.

And have been keeping an eye on the place since they live out of state.

They’ve given us the key codes and the authorization to look after things.

Well, we had a wind storm, and their garbage bins were blown all over the yard.

I went over to pick them up and, since we were doing yard work, I took two of them back with me.

I let the kids know I had them and went on with my day.

Another neighbor posted about them, saying they were stealing other people’s trash cans.

Remember, nobody lives in the house. They are 100% unused.

Not ten minutes later, an anonymous post appears on the neighborhood forum.

“Imagine seeing your neighbor stealing trash cans from your neighbor who passed away.”

Mad face, mad face, mad face. Now, other neighbors are jumping in to agree that we’re scum.

So I responded, not anonymously because I’m not a cowardly ween, that I was the thief.

I had permission and was looking after the place.

She doesn’t know why this neighbor would always say bad things about them.

“No worries,” which shut that crap right down. But WTH?

We have legitimately done nothing to upset this woman. We are good neighbors.

We’re quiet, keep our yappy dogs inside so they don’t bother anyone.

We take care of our house and yard. We’re friendly. We try to be helpful. WTH?

Like, seriously, what could have gotten up this woman about us?

Yikes! Getting publicly accused of stealing when you were actually looking after a vacant home can be totally annoying.

OP’s reaction is justified. She and her family aren’t doing anything wrong, yet they are being treated like they are the bad guys.

The fact that the family had given them permission makes the accusation even more ridiculous.

Let’s find out what others have to say about this.

This person shares what they would do.

Another one chimes in.

Finally, here’s a petty revenge idea.

Some people are far too quick to assume the worst about their neighbors.
