A Cyclist Passed Her Home Every Time She Stepped Outside—So She Set Up a Timestamped Telemetry and Pattern Audit

Have you ever felt like someone was intentionally trying to get your attention, and it really creeped you out?
In this story, one woman is in that exact situation. A neighbor keeps riding a bicycle past her house when she’s outside, and to make it really weird, he keeps spitting at her.
She’s convinced he’s doing it on purpose and trying to get her attention. It’s really stressing her out, but she’s not sure how to get him stop.
Keep reading for the whole story.
How to stop a male neighbor from spitting at me? No HOA. Im starting to daydream of whacking his knee with a baseball bat – which isn’t an adult thing to do.
There is a man on my street I’m having the most odd/unpleasant/concerning one sided interaction with, and I need advice?
Last year, I wasn’t home much.
When I was I had the most odd thing occur…
Every single time I was doing front yard work a man would ride by on a bike. I’m not being hyperbolic. If I was outside regardless of time of day he’d appear.
This is awful!
Again I wasn’t home much, this made it easier to notice the pattern.
Out of the six times he rode by he spit directly at me. Twice, I was in my driveway mere feet away.
The fifth time it sent dread through me – my intuition screamed something isn’t right here. In my opinion, that was two times too many.
I have a history of avoiding anxiety provoking situations. I’m a wuss.
The police were willing to help.
The fifth time I went to the police station and said something is off with an individual. Can you speak to him?
I was told by that officer yes. That next time I saw him to call.
I get home from the police station where I’d been rather emotional over it. It’s 10pm ish and he rides by again. At 10pm in his baseball hat and sunglasses, and spits in my direction. Right as I’m staring directly at him.
At that point I was mad. I had this crazy surge in anger. I get in my car, and follow him. Unaware he lived only a block away.
What a creep!
I get out of my car. Startle him as his back was to me by saying “Why are you spitting at me?” I kept my tone collected, but I was fuming.
Him: Hi. It’s a coincidence.
Me: Speechless.
Him: You’re beautiful.
His words are making it worse!
Me: I know you’re intentionally trying to get my intention. Why are you being an jerk?
Him: I’m not. That’s a mean accusation to make.
Me: I’m stating the truth.
Him: You look so angelic. Too innocent to say such mean things.
Gosh, this guy is bold.
Me: Speechless. Thinking I bet this is not what I should have done.
Him: You smoke weed? You want to come in?
Me: I have things planned. I must pass.
Him: Can I have a hug?
At least she got away.
Me: Speechless.
Him: You insulted me. Can’t I at least have a hug.
I turned around to walk to my car.
Him: You didn’t even ask my name.
Here’s how it ended.
Me: What’s your name?
Him: Matthew. Don’t you like it? It’s biblical.
Me: Sure. Well I’m leaving town. Please stop riding by the way you do.
Now I’m back at home and have been doing yard work. About a month after being back in town the temperatures warm up and I get to work.
Now, the police seem unwilling to help.
He starts riding by again – this guy is like 40 pounds overweight yet all he seems to do is cruise around my town.
This past weekend, He’s spit at me twice. I’ve seen him out of the corner of my eye.
I just went to the police station, and rehashed all this added it’s started to intimidate me. I politely ask him to cease the behavior. I don’t know how to handle the situation.
This officer I just spoke with said people spit all the time. They can’t do anything about it.
She tried to convince the police to help.
I responded asking can’t there be some type of mediation? Maybe this guy needs to be looked into? It’s not normal to spit at women twice in one day and then tell them they are pretty. Invite them into do drugs. To then, go back to a behavior that same woman asked them to politely and firmly stop.
He said no.
He’s always there. Every time I’m outside, minus twice, regardless of time of day he bikes by. So we’re talking like nine out of 11 times. And he’s spit at me three or four. I see it out of the corner of my eye.

I refuse to acknowledge him. It’s without question intentional.
This guy is really messing with her mental health.
Fear/intimidation, is starting to evolve into rage.
He’s taking up too much of thoughts. He ruins my mood when it’s good. At this point it makes me sick to my stomach seeing him.
How do I address this?
I was raised to see spitting at someone intentionally as hostile/not ok/intimidation. Yet the police offer acted like it was the most normal thing to deal with. That it shouldn’t phase me at all.
She needs advice.
I don’t know what to say to this person. Being men, most men realize it’s intimidating? Most men realize a woman is going to feel uncomfortable?
I need advice on what to say to this individual because it can’t continue. It’s getting to me.
I’m not wrong right? Wouldn’t MOST people in my situation feel similar?
Men know it’s wrong. He knows he’s being kinda deviant right?
Any advice on how to assert myself appropriately appreciated because I’m stumped on what to do.
I mean, he might be too stupid to realize how he’s making her feel. She tried to tell him to stop, and that didn’t work. Clearly, talking to him won’t work. It might just put her in a dangerous situation.
Let’s see what Reddit recommends.
This is a good idea!

This person agrees with her perspective.

Here are some more suggestions.

I like this idea.

It would be an interesting experiment to hire a male high school kid to do the yard work and see if the neighbor continues with his behavior. Maybe he would assume someone else moved in and find somewhere else to ride his bike. Or the idea of the sprinklers. If she hits him with water, surely he’ll get the message that he needs to back off.
That neighbor is a creep!
