“Wreck” by Jordan Griska (10 Photos)
by twistedsifter
Made from 12,000 pieces of mirror-finish stainless steel, Jason Griska’s ‘Wreck‘ (2016) took nearly two years to complete. According to Griska:
Wreck is based on a computer-generated model of a luxury sedan (Mercedes Benz S550), in a video game, which was manipulated to look like it was involved in a crash that resulted in a fatality. The perfect geometry and flawless materiality of the piece reflect the inspiration of idealized digital design, in stark contrast with the grimness of the reality it represents. Beauty, technology and engineering collide with death and reality. [source]
Base in Brooklyn, New York, Griska received his BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and his Certificate in sculpture from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA).
Unfortunately for those hoping to see ‘Wreck’ in person, the sculpture belongs in the private collection of an unnamed buyer. It was exhibited last year for 4 days in October by Philadelphia Contemporary at Pier 9 and exists online in the photos below for you to get a sense of this provocative work.
