People don’t always react the way you expect, even when you’re just trying to help.

One cashier ran into that after accidentally scanning an item twice and immediately voiding the extra charge.

When the customer pointed it out, he calmly explained what happened and showed her the subtraction on the screen.

However, instead of accepting the explanation, she called him a dweeb and told him to calm down.

That left him confused because he hadn’t been rude or argumentative in the first place.

Read on to see how it all played out.

The smallest thing that’s guaranteed to **** a cashier off.

I was checking out a semi-regular through my lane with a medium-large order. Nothing I haven’t been able to handle by myself before.

I had been tired but in a pretty good mood and smiling most of the time.

I accidentally scanned an item twice. Okay, no problem, I thought to myself, and I promptly voided the second scan.

Everything was clearly laid out on the screen.

The screen showed the item in a format like this, as it always had:

ITEM $1
ITEM $1
CL ITEM -$1

Lady: “Excuse me! You scanned that item three times.”

Then, she said something he wasn’t expecting.

Me: “Don’t worry. I actually only scanned it twice and voided the extra charge.” I pointed to the screen. “Note the subtraction sign next to the third price entry.”

Lady: “Okay, Dweeb. Calm down.”

Needless to say, I was a bit surprised by the reaction and had to pause to process what just happened.

Me: “Wait… what?”

At this point, he was angry but way too tired to act on it.

Lady: “I said calm down.”

Me: “Oh… uh… okay?”

I continued scanning her items. I maintained a bored look on my face. I was ****** off enough to flip tables, but I didn’t have the energy. Seriously, it was just a polite correction to ensure her that she wasn’t being overcharged. Why do some people act like this is a verbal attack of some sort?

Wow! The nerve of some people is unbelievable.

Let’s see what the people over at Reddit think about what happened.

It’s easy to see why these people get confused.

This is a good point.

It’s nice of her to reassure them.

That was such a weird reaction.

He wasn’t arguing with her or getting defensive. He was literally just explaining why the screen showed the item three times.

But apparently, even that was enough to annoy her.

No matter how you look at it, her entire reaction was completely unnecessary.
