Some people really do go out of their way to do the right thing.

One store employee saw that firsthand after an older customer returned several hours after making a purchase.

At first, the cashier thought he had come back to buy something else.

But that wasn’t the case. He was there fro a completely different reason.

A customer came back 3 hours later because I gave him four nickels too much change

I work part-time at a small store, and this older guy bought a few things this morning. Nothing unusual.

A couple of hours later, I was behind the counter playing Big Roller on my phone when he comes back in, walks straight up to me, and puts two dimes on the counter.

I thought he wanted to buy something else.

All she could do was stand there in shock.

He tells me I gave him too much change earlier. Four nickels.

I laughed and told him he seriously didn’t need to drive back for that.

But he said he noticed it when he got home and it would bother him all day if he kept it. Then he just left.

I stood there looking at the two dimes like an idiot for a second. I’ve had people scream at me over coupons worth less than that. This guy spent gas money to return 20 cents that nobody even knew was missing.

Wow! That was such a noble thing to do.

Let’s take a look at what the readers over at Reddit think about what happened here.

Well, that’s weird.

That says a lot about the kind of person he is.

Most people probably wouldn’t think twice about 20 cents, especially if nobody else noticed.

But for him, it clearly mattered more to be honest than to keep something that wasn’t his.

You don’t see that kind of thing every day, but it’s nice when you do.
