Originally, it was thought to be someone in the control room telling John that he was too loud. But no one would admonish John Lennon, and like most mysteries, the truth is a bit more complicated.

Produced over an 8-month period, recorded at least 5 different ways with more than 35 takes, including a marathon all-nighter session with producer George Martin, the resulting song was a layered masterpiece. It showcases the unique talent of each Beatle as well as various instruments and vocal harmonies. A ghost vocal is a small price to pay when you listen to this one-of-a-kind gem.
