Weddings can be stressful enough without unexpected guests being added to the list.

So, what happens when your future mother-in-law takes it upon herself to invite extra people without asking and expects you to cover the cost? Would you let it go to avoid drama? Or would you confront her about the added expense?

In the following story, one bride-to-be is dealing with this exact scenario and wonders if she’s wrong for asking her MIL for more money.

AITA for asking my MIL to dish out more money for our wedding since she wants so many family members there?

I f(28) and my Fiance M(32) have been together for 5.5 years and are getting married in the Spring.

We have invited many of his family members with whom I have met or formed a relationship.

Today, on our address collection list, I noticed the names of 4 people I have never met or heard of.

It seems like the MIL has invited everyone she knows.

My future MIL forwarded our address collection form to family members (without asking us if she could), and even worse, after we told her we didn’t want to invite his cousin, whom he had not talked to since he was 10.

We did not invite these people; she sent them the address collection form, so we asked her to dish out more money.

We did this because 1/3 of our guest list is family she wanted there, and we agreed to invite, while less than 1/4 of the guest list is my family.

AITA?

Wow! The MIL is expecting a lot here.

Let’s check out what the fine folks over at Reddit have to say.

The MIL needs to pay up.

If she doesn’t want to, then she needs to tell the people they’re not invited.

This is her mess to clean up, but it should come from the fiance since it’s his mom.
