Not every workday is stressful. Sometimes, you get a quiet moment that sticks with you for all the right reasons.
Imagine working in retail, where the noise and small talk never really stop, when suddenly a group of customers comes through your line, and the entire interaction is perfectly silent. Would you feel awkward? Or would you secretly enjoy the peace?
In the following story, one cashier finds themselves in this exact situation and loves every second of it. Here’s how it all played out.
I’ve had the best transaction of my entire life.
So I work as a cashier for a retail store and have been for 4.5 years now.
A group of guys comes into my line. There were about 6 of them, and they didn’t look like they were together at first.
I said my usual “Hello there/How’s it going?” and got no reply.
I didn’t think much of it, but then I saw their interactions. They were speaking sign language.
As it turns out, the guys couldn’t hear.
All of these guys were deaf.
I had four transactions in a row of pure silence. I didn’t have to say anything or hear anything.
It was heaven.
Wow! That’s some story.
Let’s see how the folks over at Reddit feel about it.
This person loves helping a couple who come into their store.

According to this reader, they learned some sign language for this very reason.

For this person, the best day at work is a day spent in the back away from people.

Here’s someone who loves helping deaf customers.

What a nice change!
