Your average grocery shopper will do anything to save a buck, even if it’s not entirely correct.
What would you do if your customer insisted on not paying for something that wasn’t charged? Like say, air?
One guy recently took to Reddit to divulge a story about exactly this.
Here are the details!
I Don’t Want to Pay For Air
I was reading through some of the posts and was reminded of this completely tame, but still kind of funny story.
Back in college, I worked at a grocery store as a cashier.
Still sounds rife for chaos.
This story is about produce.
I had all the usual people who would bag their produce together and get upset when I separated it because it cost different amounts and sometimes even people who would ask me what they were buying (as if I knew).
Classic.
One day, a middle-aged woman had a small plastic bag of tomatoes on my belt with the rest of her groceries.
Cust: I’m sorry, I need to grab those tomatoes first. I don’t want to pay for all the air in the bag!
Proceeds to open the bag, release the air, and tie it back up
Cust: There! No sense in paying for air. Now you can weigh them.
Real entrepreneurial mindset.
Tame and harmless.
Still makes me shake my head whenever it comes to my mind.
Sounds like she was a special breed. Let’s see what the good people of Reddit had to say about it.
Some scientific minds weighed in.

And some logistical minds.

Personal anecdotes were shared.

As well as the inverse of the situation.

And some relief that it wasn’t worse.

That’s one way to avoid literal inflation.
If you enjoyed that story, read this one about a mom who was forced to bring her three kids with her to apply for government benefits, but ended up getting the job of her dreams.
