Overworked Retail Employee Was Waiting For A Customer’s Payment, But An Impatient Person In Line Said She Was “Lounging At The Register”

Some customers couldn’t stand to wait in line.
This theme park employee was alone at the register when the queue started building up. She was just waiting for a customer to get her payment out of her wallet when another customer called her out for “lounging.”

I work for one of the “happiest places on earth.” Let’s just say the memes about them leaving one cashier up front to fend for themselves are all true.
It was just a manager and me working the registers today. I try not to abuse paging for backup because my managers are always putting up stock. The lines get long, but I can scan quickly. Most of the hold-up is waiting on people fishing money out of their wallets.
As I was standing there waiting for someone to get her money out, a customer left the line and asked me to get someone else up there because I was lounging instead of doing my job.
I had already bagged up this lady’s things and was just waiting for her to pay. I was so embarrassed. Other customers in line started to laugh at the man, and at me, as I ran to another register to page for backup.
When I got back to my register, the lady STILL did not have her money ready.
The customers were laughing and joking, but this retail employee felt humiliated.
My manager came up and opened her lane, and my line was finally moving again. People were still laughing and thanking God my manager came to save their day.
I so badly wanted to ask them, “Who do you think puts up all the stuff you’re buying while I’m up here?” because I sure as hell don’t have the time to open a box, let alone stock and run the register at the same time.
The man who called me out was still talking about it. He clearly felt like the hero of the day. Luckily, he got into my manager’s line, but as he went through, he was loudly making remarks that a closed mouth never gets anything done and that they should hire more people.
The person I rang up after the lady who took her time getting her money out said, “Hope you guys get some more help!” sarcastically, and laughed in my face as I handed her her change.
I was just so embarrassed by the whole thing. Heaven forbid you wait five minutes in line.
Customer said that as if the theme park was not known for its long lines.
