His Roommate Wouldn’t Stop Taking His Food—So He Started Locking Up His Groceries

Sharing an apartment does not automatically mean sharing every carton of milk, egg, and bag of coffee inside it.
Most roommates understand labeled groceries are off-limits, but when one person keeps taking yours and rarely replaces them, would you keep arguing or move everything into a private mini fridge?
That solution leaves one man and his roommate at odds, with personal boundary complaints abounding.
See why this grocery dispute became a serious vibe check.
AITA for not sharing my groceries just because we live together?
I (31M) rent a flat with two other guys. We all agreed we’d buy our own groceries and label stuff.
But his roommate quickly began breaking these rules.
One of them keeps “accidentally” using my stuff—milk, eggs, even my coffee. He always says, “I’ll replace it,” but rarely does.
I stopped saying anything and just started moving my stuff into my room mini fridge.
So his roommate freaks out and starts shifting the blame.
Now he’s calling me petty and says I’m “killing the vibe.” But I’m not his parent.
AITA for being territorial about my food in a shared house?
Food theft is one of the quickest ways to create conflict among roommates.

The roommate was not upset about losing a friendly sharing arrangement, but about losing easy access to groceries someone else paid for.
After repeated promises to replace the missing food went nowhere, the owner simply moved his supplies somewhere they could no longer be taken.
Commenters overwhelmingly supported the mini fridge solution and agreed that repeated “accidents” stop looking accidental once the free food disappears.
He may have killed the ‘vibe’, but thankfully the milk survived.
