He Arrived at the Hotel Certain He Had a Reservation—Then the Front Desk Worker Found the Problem

Well, this is a weird one…
But, we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: you never know how your day is gonna unfold when you work at a hotel.
Every day is a roll of the dice!
In today’s story, a front desk worker got quite a surprise one day and they were nice enough to tell us all about it.

The no-show showed up…one year later.
“In the summer of 2023 I started working as a night auditor in a 5 star hotel in Paris, and since that period of time, people used to call to book for the Olympics (2024…in one year).
We’d just explain that we’re not yet opening that period for reservations…etc
I finished my 4 months contract in September 2023….and for the next year (2024) I was offered for the same job…same hotel…they liked me.
One day during the Olympics when starting my shift (at 11 pm) my colleague explained that he got a weird situation…A client with no reservation saying he had a room (he did not…we were full..no booking under his name).
What was going on here…?
Since we do have more time during the night…I went deep inspecting that story…what I found was hilarious…There WAS a booking for that person!
But it was from 2023…
And the booking was made through our department of reservations…so, by phone.
Weird!
And what happened actually is the person from our department mixed up the years…2023 and 2024…for him it was obvious you can’t book more than one year in advance…and made the booking for the same date 2023 not 2024….and I did handle the no-show and night audit that day in 2023…My name was on the booking.
He showed up one year later.
For people saying you have an email you can’t miss the date error…We all know people PRINTING their airplane tickets and getting there the wrong date…so if you don’t even think about the year being false…you’re cooked.”
