Her Roommate Wants Her On-and-Off Boyfriend to Stay With Them—But She Thinks It’s a Terrible Idea

If you live with someone and they, out of nowhere, spring it on you that they want someone else to stay at your place for a while, there’s only one correct answer.
You say ABSOLUTELY NOT and you never waver.
Trust me on this one, okay…?
In today’s story, a woman talked about how she shot down her roommate after she wanted her special man-friend to stay at their place for a while.
Check out what she had to say.
My roommate wants to let their “friend” stay with us. Am I wrong for saying no?
“My friend Sally has been my best friend for a long time.
She is very nice but tends to have a weak spot for not so great men. That’s all fine because we never lived together until our upcoming lease which has officially started I just haven’t moved in as I’m paying double rent on two places until August.
She had to move in June and she had nowhere to go so I found a house and got us all to start the lease on June 1.
I also found my boyfriend and our other guy friend to be on board.
Everyone is going out of their way to help this friend.
Even though all of our leases except hers ends in August, we signed for our new place so she’d have a place to live.
Her current rent was around $550 and we wanted to make sure she stays comfortably within her price range so the rest of us are taking on the bigger chunk of the payment.
Okay that’s alright.
This guy sounds like a real catch!
She has a history with this man named let’s call him Peyton. More of a strange situationship/relationship.
They’ve been on and off again and I’ve heard it for a while. They get close then it ends badly then somehow he ends up back in her life and she loses all the ground she stood on. He’s called her rude names and treats her terribly, is rowdy, and dirty and frankly annoying to be around.
Back at her old place she also had roommates who she wasn’t that close with. They all couldn’t stand Peyton. She brought him to stay with her as he had nowhere else to go.
He was loud, caused a ruckus, took up space, clogged her shower and her roommates wanted him out as well.
What a loser…
Sally works nights and Peyton doesn’t have a job and wasn’t contributing to rent either. He just squatted around the house all day.
She also said she couldn’t muster up the strength to kick him out. And when he did finally leave he accused her of stealing $20.
After this she told me and my boyfriend she was never going to talk to him again.
But now she wants him to stay with them.
The way the house is it’ll only be me and Sally in the downstairs area as there are two bedrooms.
He would stay in her bathroom but use our shared bathroom. She texted me last night to ask if he could stay for a few weeks.
I was immediately unsure and wanted to speak with our other roommates.
My boyfriend was a hard no but our other roommate just wanted to speak with us before giving her an answer as she asked him in private.
This living situation was getting off to a really bad start…
Once we got him on the phone and me and my boyfriend listed our concerns he was leaning towards a no as well.
Sally was very emotional over the phone and said we all needed to talk in person and maybe speak with Peyton in person to hear his side.
But I have no interest in letting him stay, period.
We’re going to all talk tonight and Peyton will probably be there. However I think he should not have a say period. It’s all our house and all our names are on the lease.
She needs to take a hint about this guy…
Like I said Sally is my best friend. She can get very sad and shut down if we don’t say yes.
She tried to make us feel bad for Peyton but he doesn’t have a job, doesn’t bring in an income and was a squatter at her old place when he only was supposed to stay a few days.
I just feel like we’ve all heard the phrase “just let them stay with us a few days/weeks before they get back on their feet” and that can lead to a while.
Based on everything it’s a little inconsiderate in my opinion to let this strange man move in our house when we all haven’t moved in yet.
Letting him stay would go against their lease.
Our lease explicitly states as well a guest can’t have someone stay for more than 7 consecutive days.
We are meeting tonight to all talk about it.

I don’t think Peyton should be at the discussion but Sally believes if he is able to talk to us we could understand where she is coming from.”

Bravo for her to shutting this idea down!
You know this probably wouldn’t have ended well…
No way!
She’s not on board with letting this guy stay at her place…and you can’t blame her!
