Helping the elderly is an obligation, not a requirement.

“I was ringing up this one lady the other day and she’s seemingly an older woman.

She had some dog food and gardening soil and some sodas at the bottom of the buggy buried under stuff.

How were they supposed to know this?

She told me that last part with me not realizing she meant for me to help her out with every single item on to the checkout before I ring it up.

When I got done she went “you must need some training or something.”

Honestly it’s not a part of our job to help the elderly with things they can’t carry. And to be completely fair to myself she wasn’t shaky or anything like that she looked perfectly capable of holding everything she put up there.

Gee, sorry…

I make it a point if they do visibly look like they need help I will help them (and I’m not gonna lie, most of the time the people that really do need help don’t want it).

I’ve taken peoples’ bags out to their vehicle before in fact I don’t know why she didn’t deliberately say she needed help and expected me to read her mind I’m not a telepath and most of all, I’m not your indentured servant.”
