Arpino is a comune (municipality) in the province of Frosinone in the region of Lazio in central Italy. Its Roman name was Arpinum and the ancient city dates back to at least the 7th century BC. [source]
As of 2007, Arpino had a population of 7,684 over an area of 55 square km and at an elevation of 450 m (1,480 ft). According to Best small towns in Italy Arpino was ‘the native home of several illustrious men. From Cicero to Giaus Marius, from Marco Agrippa, the architect of the Pantheon in Rome, to the artists Giuseppe Cesari (the so-called “Knight of Arpino”) and Domenico Mastroianni, ancestor to the famous actor Marcello.’ [source]
