Her Fiancé Went Out of Town, Then Gave Her a Hard Time for Not Doing the Dishes

Yowza!
We read a whole lot of articles about bad relationships and partners behaving badly…but these two are really something else!
And I have a feeling you’re gonna agree with me wholeheartedly after you dig in to the details of what’s going on in this household.
Hang on tight, things are about to get rocky!
AITA for not doing the dishes over the weekend?
“I got home from work today at 5:30 pm and saw my fiancé’s car in our spot in the shared driveway with neighbors, so I pulled in behind him.
I called his cell instead of going up to get him, since I didn’t want to leave the car blocking the driveway. I needed his help lifting a fire pit out of my trunk. I’d driven an hour each way to his mom’s house the day before (she’s moving) to pick it up along with some other things for him.
Okay…
He came downstairs and snapped at me, asking why I didn’t just come up and get him instead of calling since he just started cooking dinner.
He helped me move the fire pit, then said, “Sorry I snapped, I’m just mad you left the kitchen so messy for me. It’s incredibly disrespectful.”
I asked what he meant.
Turns out he was talking about two pans and some birthday candles left on the drying rack (from when I baked his friend we hosted a birthday cake on Friday), plus three cups in the sink from over the weekend.
He also mentioned the house being messy; there were multiple boxes of his things from his mom’s house that I’d hauled up our two-story walkup and left in the dining room, finishing around 9:30 pm Sunday night.
This guy sounds like a lot of fun to live with…
I didn’t have the time or energy to sort through them because I had to be up at 4 am Monday (today) for work.
He’d been gone alone at a destination wedding all weekend, and said he felt disrespected having to rush home from work and then walk into “the mess” and then cook dinner.
He asked, sarcastically, if I’d had a busy weekend.
I said no, apologized for leaving the few dishes, and thanked him for starting dinner, even though I’d already told him takeout or snacking was fine with me tonight.
He was the one who chose to cook, under a timeline he set for himself, since he had volleyball at 7 pm.
As soon as I got inside, I did the dishes, put away the groceries, packed up the leftovers, and did another round of dishes from dinner.
I feel like I was the one who got disrespected, snapped at over a dishes and boxes.
He did eventually say he was fine with the boxes in the dining room for now, but I felt like he never gave me a thank you for getting those things for him from his mom’s house.
He’s usually not so easily angered, and he was so frustrated and snappy, that I feel like I might be the jerk.”
