Working in any customer-facing job requires more patience than what most humans have, but there are some people who know how to push buttons more effectively than others. And at the front desk? There is nowhere to escape from them.
How would you handle an unhinged customer demanding that you play Cupid for them? One person recently shared an insane story about this on Reddit. Here’s what went down.
Guest didn’t understand why I wouldn’t give her another guest’s name & phone number.
I worked at a campground and this woman came to the front desk to ask if the man staying in another site had left.
I asked if he’d left something behind or something.
Well that’s pretty forward.
She told me that she was planning on asking for his number because he was hot and now she couldn’t.
I said something like, aw man and thought she’d just move along.
She kept looking at me so I asked if there was something else I could help her with.
She said, “Um, yeah. I need his number?”
Oh! That’s not how that works lady.
I said, “You want me to just give you his number?”
“Yeah.”
“I can’t do that.”
Isn’t that obvious?
“Whyyy??”
“Are you serious?”
“Why not? He’s so cute!”
Even cute people deserve privacy.
Former night auditor stare.
“What’s the big deal?”
“Would you like it if I gave a random guy your number?”
“That’s different!”
Someone had to tell her!
“It’s really not. Even if I wanted to, it’s illegal.”
She kept asking, saying she wouldn’t tell on me and I eventually got annoyed and told her she was being really creepy.
She said I was making her feel bad and finally left.
Luckily my manager at that place really didn’t mind when I got an attitude with guests who deserved it, so I wasn’t worried about getting in trouble for telling her she was a creep.
Someone had to put her in her place. Let’s see what the good people of Reddit had to say about this one.
