Five years of friendly neighbors can unravel over something as small as a fan. That’s exactly what’s playing out for one tenant right now.
The tenant’s simple request to move a fan away from a shared doorway was quickly ignored by the neighbor.
What should have been a civil conversation turned into insults, slammed doors at 1:30 am, and boots deliberately left blocking their entryway. All from a neighbor who had never been anything but pleasant for half a decade.

Neighbor has fan next to open door
My neighbor has put a fan in between his open door. I don’t like the noise.
We have a shared walkway, and our apartment doors are right next to each other.
This isn’t the only problem this tenant has with this neighbor.
He also slammed his door at 1:30 am and put his boots in front of my door.
I think he is being aggressive because I asked him to move his fan.
But when the tenant tried to address the issue, the neighbor wasn’t sympathetic at all.
I asked him to move the fan further into his apartment, not right at his open door, to another location.
Because the sound travels through to my apartment. He knows I am sensitive to noise.
That’s when the neighbor started hurling accusations of his own.
He got angry and accused me of having a “stinky apartment,” and some other insults.
He also randomly complained about my TV and radio being loud.
But he has always said that I never make any noise at all, and I am known as a very quiet person among our neighbors.
So he was grasping for straws.
The tenant is starting to feel hopeless about the whole situation.
Management won’t care. The building has loud plumbing, and it took about 30 videos to even get them to care and not gaslight me about it.
Overall, I had to reach an agreement with my neighbors over the plumbing noise.
