Her Neighbors Blast Music Late into the Night Multiple Times a Week—and Neither the Police nor Her Landlord Will Lift a Finger

When you live in an apartment, you have to expect that you will hear some noise from your neighbors, but it shouldn’t be excessive.
What would you do if your neighbors were regularly making loud noises (music, yelling, running, etc) at all hours of the night, multiple times per week, but the landlord and the police wouldn’t do anything about it?
That is the situation that the woman in this story is in. She doesn’t know what she can do, but it is driving her crazy.
Personally, I think she needs to continue to document the issues and start calling the police and the landlord much sooner to try to get it to stop. Read through the full story below, and see if you agree.
Loud neighbors 🙁
I really need advice because I feel like I’m losing my mind over this situation.
For a long time now, I’ve been dealing with ongoing noise from the neighbors living next to me.
It didn’t start with just one bad night.
This has been happening repeatedly, and over time it’s gotten to the point where I feel anxious because I’m worried it’s going to happen again.
Documenting the issues is very important.
In the beginning, it was mostly loud music, loud talking, and random noise at night.
I tried ignoring it because I figured maybe it was just a one-time thing, but it kept happening.
Eventually I started documenting it because I realized it wasn’t improving.
I’ve spoken to the landlord/management before about the noise. I was hoping they would address it, but from my perspective nothing really changed.
If more people moved in, that should be reported to the landlord.
Every time I think it’s getting better, it starts all over again.
Recently it feels like the apartment has become even louder. It seems like there are more people there than before.
I also noticed a young child who is awake very late at night. There have been nights where she’s running through the hallway close to midnight while adults are talking and hanging out.
This is very excessive and needs to be addressed.
Ever since I started noticing more people there, the apartment has felt even noisier.
Last night was a horrible night.
The noise started in the evening and continued for hours. There was loud talking, music, and someone repeatedly playing a guitar.
Every time I thought they were finally done, it would start again. It went past midnight, then past 1:00 a.m., then 2:00 a.m., and I was still hearing music around 4:00 a.m.
Recording the noise and calling the non-emergency police line is exactly what she should do.
I was so overwhelmed that I started shaking from anxiety because I just wanted to sleep. I even turned on my fan because that’s normally what helps me relax at night, but I could still hear the noise.
I documented what I was hearing and eventually called 311 because I didn’t know what else to do.
The problem is that I always end up calling 311, and it honestly feels pointless.
She needs to call as soon as they violate any noise laws. And provide the police with the evidence.
By the time officers arrive, the noise has usually stopped, so the complaint gets closed as “no violation observed upon arrival.”
It makes me feel like nothing ever changes, even though the disturbance was very real while it was happening.
Now I’m exhausted, running on almost no sleep, and honestly feel hopeless. I’m constantly wondering if they’re just going to do the exact same thing again.
It is important to be persistent with reporting the issue.
I don’t want to spend my nights lying in bed wondering if loud music is about to start.
I feel like I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do, documenting it, reporting it, calling 311, and trying to handle it the right way, but I still don’t feel like anything is changing.
Has anyone dealt with neighbors like this? Did reporting them eventually help? Did your landlord actually do anything? What finally got the situation to stop?

I’m honestly looking for advice from people who have been through something similar because I feel mentally and emotionally exhausted.
She needs to file reports with the landlord and the police much more quickly. Persistence and documentation are essential in these types of cases.

She needs to either move or pester the landlord.

Here is a commenter in a similar position.

This commenter had to play loud music of their own to stop the issue.

Fighting fire with fire can sometimes work.

This commenter says she may have to move.

If you can’t move, you need to focus on gathering evidence and reporting it every time it happens. When the neighbors are bothering you, you need to bother the landlord and the police (if a law is violated).
The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so just keep ‘annoying’ the landlord and police until they take action.
