If you work in any kind of customer service job, there’s a good chance that you’re going to have some kind of conflict every day.

It all comes down to the law of averages.

Just ask the guy who wrote this story!

He didn’t think he did anything wrong, but a customer at the museum where he works got bent out of a shape because of something he said.

Let’s take a look at what went down.

AITA for telling a customer that sometimes she has to speak to workers to say what she wants?

“I’m 32 and I work at a small museum at the front desk selling tickets and gift shop items.

This group of girls come in, with full face makeup and skimpy-ish clothes. Just looking at them I can’t tell how old they are. Could be teenagers, could be college kids.

At first they come up and say “4 youths and 1 adult” (youth is 4-18 at my museum).

As I start to ring it it in they decide they want to pay separately. Totally fine.

The first 4 come up one at a time and tell me “1 youth ticket” and they pay.

So from the beginning of the transaction I assumed the last one would be the adult.

It was like an old-fashioned stare down…

This girl come up and just stares at me for a solid 10 seconds and says nothing.

So I ask “adult or youth?”

She then rolls her eyes and says with in such an annoyed and extra loud tone “youth!!”

I take her money and say “sometimes you have to speak up because I don’t know how old you are” in a very kind voice trying to help out.

She didn’t like that!

She gives me an evil glare and rips the ticket out of my hand and stomps away. And for the next 2 minutes she keeps looking back at me and whispering to her friends.

Also, they only stayed do 15 minutes in the museum. Seems like a waste of money to me, but I’m poor so… haha.

Is what I said wrong? Should I have worded it differently, or not said anything at all?

I was just trying to help the youth try and be nice to costumer service workers.”

Well, that was much ado about nothing, don’t you think?

But the customer sure wasn’t happy about it!

Oh, lighten up!

He was just doing his job!
