She Held a Prime Eclipse Deck Spot for Hours—Then an Entitled Passenger Tried to Steal It and Made a Scene

It’s frustrating when you put in the time to save a good spot and someone else tries to slide into it at the last minute.
One cruise passenger ran into that while waiting with family to watch a solar eclipse from the upper deck.
They had been holding two prime deck chairs for hours, taking turns so everyone could grab food or cool off.
Then, when the crew removed the chairs, another woman rushed over and claimed the railing space they had been using.
The family told her they had only stepped aside for the crew, but she wasn’t happy about it.

AITA for running off a woman who tried to steal our eclipse viewing spot?
I am currently on a cruise in the Bay of Biscayne to see the solar eclipse. The eclipse will start around 7 p.m. tonight. My family wanted to secure prime viewing spots on the upper deck because our rooms are on the opposite side from where the sun will set.
We went up at about noon and secured two deck chairs for the four of us. We’ve been taking turns holding the chairs so we can cool down, get food, etc.
About 3 p.m., the crew started taking up the chairs, which we knew they would do. My SIL and I stood up and moved aside so the crew could take our chairs. A woman rushes over and drops towels at the railing directly in front of us as we wait for the crew to move the chairs.
Frustrated, she decided to speak up.
Normally, I’m not confrontational, but we had been there for three hours and only moved because of the crew. The deck was not overly full, though prime railing spots were mostly gone.
We informed the woman this was our spot and that we’d only moved so the crew could take the chairs. She then wants to know how many people, and we said there were 4 of us. Only two of us were there at the time, but like I said, we’d been cycling through, as were other groups around us.
I told her she was welcome to sit behind us, which she declined because she’s only 4’11”. She starts going to other groups, demanding to know how many people were in their group, and starts complaining about people holding spots.
AITA?
Eek! This one could go either way, depending on who you ask.

Here’s someone who thinks they were right to stand up for their spot.
This is one of those things where both parties can be perceived as wrong.
As someone else mentioned, the woman is short. So, it probably wouldn’t have hurt them to let her stand in front.
However, they did spend the whole day saving that spot, so it was rightly theirs.
At this point, it’s over, and it’s best to just move on and enjoy the rest of their trip.
