Sometimes, a customer asks a question that catches you so off guard you don’t even know how to answer. One former Red Robin server still remembers a moment like that from about 20 years ago.

At the time, the restaurant had coasters printed with silly jokes for customers to read while they waited. Well, on this day, after the server dropped off some drinks, a young woman held one up and asked for the answer to the joke.

Knowing that the answer was printed right on the coaster, the server walked away shocked and amused.

Read on to see how it all played out.

What’s The Dumbest Thing A Customer Has Ever Said To You?

I was working as a server at Red Robin about 20 years ago.

They’re all over the U.S., so I assume most people here know what they are, but for those who don’t, it’s a typical American family burger joint with loud colors.

We had coasters with lame jokes on them.

One of them at the time said, “If hamburgers are from Hamburg, does that mean cheeseburgers are from Cheeseburg?”

Shocked, she really didn’t know what to say.

After dropping off a table’s drinks, a young woman held up the coaster, showed it to me, and asked, “What’s the answer to this riddle?”

It’s one of the few times I found myself completely at a loss for words and didn’t know how to respond without making her feel like an idiot.

Luckily, her boyfriend said, “Honey, no…” after doing a literal facepalm and noticing my jaw agape.

I then just turned around and walked away, trying not to laugh.

That’s funny! Wonder how long it took her to catch on.

It must’ve been hard to just walk away without laughing at the woman. Some people really don’t put much thought into what they’re saying before they say it. Good thing her boyfriend was there to step in before the server had to answer.

She must’ve been pretty embarrassed afterward.
