‘Artificial Moon’ was the brainchild of Beijing-based artist Wang Yuyang. Suspended amongst the trees (allegedly the only natural habitat) of the Xujiahui district of Shanghai, this glowing orb of fluorescent lights even incorporates circular tubes to mimic the craters seen on our own Moon.

With a diameter of 400 cm (13 ft), this gigantic sculpture has generated an interesting dialogue around light pollution, especially in large metropolis’s like Shanghai where one may not even be able to see the moon through the pollution.
