Picture of the Day: Pablo Escobar Visits the White House
Pablo Escobar Visits the White House
In this rare photograph (c 1978 – 1982) we see notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar standing in front of the White House in Washington, DC. The boy standing beside Escobar is his only son, Juan Pablo Escobar, who has since changed his name to Sebastian Marroquin.
The photograph is one of many seen in the HBO documentary Sins of My Father which debuted on October 4, 2010. The documentary tells the story of the drug kingpin’s life, death and legacy of suffering as seen through the eyes of his only son, while illuminating Colombia’s violent recent history.
Marroquin and his mother broke more than a decade of silence in order to appear on the film. They have been living in virtual exile in Argentina, where Marroquin now works as an architect.
