Artist and photographer Lindsey Wohlman reimagines Andy Warhol’s famous Campbell’s Soup Cans in a Kickstarter funded project entitled, Warhol Soup Cans Naked & Unlabeled. The artist is half-way through the project as Warhol’s original piece featured 32 soup cans.

It’s important to note that the above image is a work in progress. As Lindsey states on her Kickstarter page:

“Don’t look too closely at this sample image, there’s lots of things that need to be fixed and cleaned up (inconsistencies with ingredients, molding lines, and yes… dog hair!).”

 

You can find a more detailed update on her blog. Now how did Lindsey get each can of soup like that? In the comments on reddit, she explains that she dissolved gelatin into the soup and then cooled it for about 12 hours in a silicone soup can mold that she custom-built.

Warhol’s original work of art consists of thirty-two canvases, each measuring 20 inches (51 cm) in height × 16 inches (41 cm) in width and each consisting of a painting of a Campbell’s Soup can—one of each of the canned soup varieties the company offered at the time (1962). The individual paintings were produced using screen printing and Warhol debuted the work on July 9, 1962 in his first one-man gallery exhibition as a fine artist at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles.
