Student Designs Faucet that Saves and Swirls Water Into Amazing Patterns
Simon Qiu, a design student at the Royal College of Art in London, was recently awarded an iF Student Design Award for his water-saving faucet design that also produces an elegant and beautiful swirling pattern.
The swirling pattern is produced with the use of two small turbines rotating in opposite directions and Qiu states his design uses 15% less water than a traditional faucet using the same amount of pressure over a 60-second period (unsubstantiated). He also says the water comes out of his faucet 0.4 seconds faster and gentler (less force), although both claims have not been independently verified.
Funnily enough, the water savings may be moot, as it’s possible people enjoy looking at the beautiful water patterns so much that they keep the faucet on longer than usual! Either way it’s an interesting and creative design and it will be awesome if Qiu builds out a working prototype.
