Teammates Are Working As Usual, Knowing No One Can Break In, But Then They Do Because Someone Forgot To Lock The Doors

Shoplifters are an enemy of any retail store, but for many businesses, it’s hard to catch and penalize them.

The store in this story is at an advantage.

See how these workers got revenge on intruders.

Someone forgot to lock the doors when closing the store.

I work overnights with a shift starting at 10pm and ending at 6 AM, meaning that my team and I are literally locked in the store outside of operating hours putting product on shelves without customers.

The only times these doors can be opened are when the store opens the next day or if there is an emergency (so if you forgot your lunch at home, hope the overpriced vending machine has something that you’re able to survive on).

It serves a basic purpose.

The store is always locked and the alarm is armed by the closing manager and unlocked plus unarmed by the opening manager.

This means that my manager doesn’t have a code to arm/unarm the alarm so we can’t steal products.

We’re also going through a liquidation sale so the store looks really empty.

Now with that out of the way here’s the story:

About a week ago me and my team came back from holiday break to stock some grass seeds that were being displayed in the front by the doors.

The purpose is to get customer’s attention due to the fact that the store is closing soon and the ground is covered in snow.

The alarm system is about to become very satisfying.

At about 1 AM one of my co-workers (who I’ll call Jeff) and I heard the door alarm going off for some reason, wondering why it was doing that we looked towards the set of doors that lead into the store.

Not a second later we see some high school kids (Who were still on Winter break) walk casually into the store taking a few steps in passing the second sliding door at the entrance which opened for them like normal.

Jeff and I just stood there confused cause the doors shouldn’t have opened for them and then the kids noticed us looking at them.

The exchange probably lasted about 10-20 seconds before they just turned around and left.

After they left I went over to the door to make sure they were out of the store and ran to our garden center (which was unlocked because that’s where the seeds were being stored) to get my manager and let him know what just happened.

Once he was filled in about the situation he ran inside the store to take a look at the doors and also because the store’s security company were starting to call wanting to know why the alarm was going off.

Now they can enjoy their victory.

When he was done on the phone with security he got us (the whole team) to go and manually lock the doors as well as turn off the door sensors so no one walking by the doors can casually walk in again.

Done.

For the next 15-30 minutes my manager was on the phone with everyone who needed to know what happened explaining what had just happened as we all got back to work.

Most interesting thing that happened at my job since I worked there.

Here is what folks are saying.

Another reason to quit!

Some people really need a hobby and a job.

If you liked that story, read this one about grandparents who set up a college fund for their grandkid because his parents won’t, but then his parents want to use the money to cover sibling’s medical expenses.
