Imagine getting a new garage door keypad installed. Would you be okay with the person who installed the keypad knowing your code, or would you want to be the only one to know the code?
In this story, one single mom is in this situation, and she doesn’t want the garage door tech to know her code.
Now, she’s wondering if she handled the situation correctly or not.
Let’s read the whole story.
AITA for requesting that the garage tech not watch me as I put in my garage code?
So I got a new keypad for my garage door today and while we were setting it, the tech was staring over my shoulder as I was putting in my garage code.
Not a huge deal, but as a woman who lives alone with just her son, I am not comfortable with random strangers, knowing my garage code.
She was just being cautious.
I asked him if he could please not watch me.
And he got a total attitude and said he was not interested.
I was not meaning to insinuate that he was gonna come attack me. It’s just better to be safe than sorry when you’re a woman living alone with a child.
At least she got her way.
After that, he did look away while I put in my garage code.
Am I a jerk for just wanting a random repair man not have access to my home ?
It’s like someone looking over your should at the ATM. Even if they’re not a thief, you still don’t want them knowing your PIN.
Let’s see how Reddit reacted to this story.
This is exactly what I was thinking!

Another person agrees.

Here’s a suggestion to report him.

Assuming he WAS looking, she did the right thing.

Everyone agrees that she did the right thing.

Safety is more important than protecting someone’s feelings.
