Some friendships are best enjoyed in small doses.

But when one man realized his close friend was interviewing for a job at his workplace while also planning to move in as his roommate, the situation suddenly felt like a one-way ticket to friendship burnout.

WIBTA if I willingly prevent my friend from getting a job?

A close friend of mine (whom I love but I can only handle so much of) is interviewing at my current workplace, a place where I hold a position of power and have influence over who gets hired or not.

I love my friend. I really do.

But here’s where it gets tricky.

As fate would have it, these friends are about to spend a good amount of time together.

Due to a breakup, I’m left looking for a new place to live.

It just so happens that that very friend is also looking for one roommate, so naturally we’re going to look for a place together.

And if he gets this job…

He just went through his second interview at my job, and it just dawned on me…

If he gets hired, I will literally be with him ALL the time.

Work, then go home together, every… day…

He has legitimate reasons for denying his candidacy, but he has a bit of an ulterior motive too.

The position he’s interviewing for is a role that requires skills he doesn’t possess.

I can say that with certainty (I grew up with the guy).

Now this is a moral dilemma.

Going through with this plan would make this employee entirely self serving.

“Qualifications” aren’t always as powerful as potential.

Maybe it’s better to just find another roommate.

The company needs the right hire, and his friend deserves a fair shot.
