Money can complicate family agreements.

The following story involves a woman who received her late mom’s estate cheque.

She needed the total bill from her sister to reimburse expenses.

But despite multiple reminders,  her sister kept delaying sending the receipts.

Read the full story below for all the details.

WIBTA if I put on a time limit on when my sister can give me the total for the cost of our mom’s celebration of life?

Our mom passed away back in October. The check for her estate finally arrived.

It is less than $3,000. There will be no more.

Since Mom passed away without a will and I am the oldest next of kin, the check is in my name.

My sister and I agreed to split it 50/50. This will happen no matter what.

This woman and her sister agreed that she would reimburse them when the check arrived.

We knew that the check would take a few months to arrive.

We agreed that she and her husband would initially pay for the bill.

They paid because I am at the poverty line, and they are not.

They were to keep all the receipts.

When the check came, I would reimburse them and we would split 50/50 whatever was left.

She asked them about the total.

I let my sister know the day the check came that it was here.

I asked her to send me the total. She said she would when she got home. She did not.

I reminded her the same evening, and then her husband again today.

I know I am going to have to harass them to get the total from them.

I feel like I should not have to chase them to get the total so I can reimburse them.

Now, she’s planning to give them a deadline.

Would I be the jerk if I set a date for when they have to get me the total to get reimbursed?

For example, if they did not give me the total by February 28, then they would just get half the check.

If they did give me the total before February 28, then they would get the full cost of the celebration plus half of whatever is leftover.

She doesn’t want to chase them for the reimbursement of their money.

I want to be fair.

I also do not want to have to chase her for the total for at least a few weeks.

It could possibly be months.

I just want to give her her share.

Let’s find out what others have to say about this.

This person makes a valid point.

Finally, short and sensible.

Looks like they’re not very interested in the money.
