Her Nosy Roommate Has Pestered Her for Months—and She’s Finally Ready to Blow

It’s hard to relax at home when someone always seems to be in your business.
One renter is reaching that point with a housemate who constantly appears whenever she starts doing something around the house.
Whether she’s cleaning upstairs or making food in the kitchen, the roommate seems to show up and ask what she’s doing.
At first, it was easy enough to brush off, but after months of the same thing, it’s really starting to wear on her.
She’s already tried keeping things boring and giving short answers, but nothing seems to change.

How to get my roommate to leave me alone?
I know it’s not the worst of the worst at all, but I have a housemate who seriously won’t mind her own business, and I’m slowly beginning to run out of patience.
I might be hoovering upstairs or cleaning my belongings/room, and she’ll come upstairs and ask what I am doing. Harmless the first time; the 508th time and several months later, it’s a miracle I haven’t jumped to my own *****.
Other times include if she hears me in the kitchen cooking or washing up, she is compelled by the dish overlords to come and ask me what I am doing or just conveniently needs to be in the kitchen at the same time.
At this point, she’s tried everything and is unsure what to try next.
There are other examples, but I am trying not to be too specific.
If you couldn’t tell already, I am trying to be boring and grey-rock her, but at what point can I tell her to just go away and get a life?
She is also not easy to rationalize with, so the less mentally taxing, the better.
Yikes! It’s easy to see why it annoys her, but maybe the girl just likes her company.
Let’s see how the readers over at Reddit would handle it.
This reader knows exactly how she feels.

Here’s a good way to handle it.

According to this reader, she needs to be more upfront about it.

This person doesn’t think her method is working.

She probably needs to stop hinting and just be direct.
After all, there’s nothing wrong with telling a roommate that you need more privacy and don’t want to be questioned every time you walk into another room.
Sure, the conversation might be awkward, but it’s definitely better than letting the frustration keep building.
And if that doesn’t work, then at least she’ll know she tried being direct first.
