He’s Moving Out Of His Apartment, But He Feels Guilty His Roommate Can’t Find Anyone To Split The Rent With

You can only do so much for a roommate to help them adjust after you decide your time is up and you’re moving on.
And I’d argue that even putting in any effort to try to make the adjustment easier for them is a pretty nice gesture!
The guy who wrote today’s story is feeling guilty because his roommate hasn’t had any luck finding someone to replace him when he moves out.

Old roommate can’t find roommate replacement.
“I moved to an expensive area and decided to move in with my old roommate.
I didn’t know anyone at the time, so I just made the decision and decided to have a place lined up so I did not have to worry about it. It was a good time and we got along well.
As time went on, the apartment complex slowly began to worsen in quality, cleanliness, and charge on utilities.
For what I was paying, I thought it could find a better place, and a great opportunity came along at a perfect time.
It was time for him to go…
I told him well in advance (about four months out) that I was moving out and that he needed to find a new roommate if he’d want to stay at the apartment.
He’s been having a lot of trouble with a new roommate signing the lease, and he’s paying for an apartment that is not in his range of affordability, and it’s only doable for him to stay if he had a roommate to split the cost.
The person that agreed to move in next month decided to drop last minute.
What can you do…?
I feel terrible because I feel a bit responsible, that perhaps I probably should’ve helped more to help him find a roommate.
I asked a few people I knew, but nobody was willing to pay such a high price for utilities.
