Bridesmaid Demands The MOH Title Back From Her Best Friend After Being Stuck With Every Duty And None Of The Recognition

Many titles exist for the sole purpose of making all the work that comes with a job a little more worth it.
One friend spent years assuming she’d be maid of honor for her best friend’s wedding, only to get replaced by the bride’s brother.
She would have been fine with that, but when the bride informed her that she still expected her to carry out all the maid of honor duties without the title, the whole arrangement started to feel extremely lopsided.
She was left with a difficult choice: swallow her pride and comply, or walk away and risk the friendship entirely.

AITA for threatening to quit my best friend’s bridal party if I’m not made the Maid of Honor?
My (F27) best friend (F28) is getting married! Yay!
We’ve been best friends since 7th grade, and she was the MOH in my wedding a few years back.
So she had grand expectations when it came to her best friend’s wedding, but those expectations were quickly dashed.
When she got engaged, I assumed I was going to be her MOH, but she told me that instead, she wants her brother (M26) to be Man of Honor.
I was a tiny bit offended, but okay. I figured I’d get to spend less money and effort, no arguments there.
But there’s one (big) catch.
Then I find out that she still expects me to do all the maid of honor duties.
I’m throwing the bachelorette party, I’m helping buy or DIY decor, I’m the point person for questions and problems on the wedding day.
Of course, the bride-to-be has a convenient excuse at the ready, but this scorned bridesmaid isn’t buying it.
Her excuse as to why her brother can’t do any of this? “He’s such a young guy, I can’t count on him.”
When I pointed out that he’s older than my husband, she just brushed me off.
So she decided she wasn’t going to put up with the drama.
I got mad. I told her that if I’m doing all the MOH work, I want the MOH title, or else I’ll walk.
Maybe I’m vain for wanting the title, but I do.
AITA?
All the work with no title? Not happenin’.

The responsibilities come with the title. That’s kind of the deal.

Being the maid of honor isn’t always a fun job. Wrangling the bachelorette party, the decor, and every logistical headache on the big day. None of those things are a walk in the park, but for the honorable distinction, many women are willing to do it.
So when all of that honor is sidestepped, the deal looks a lot less appealing. This woman isn’t in the wrong for recognizing that.
At the end of the day, the bride should have never put her in this position to begin with.
If the bride’s brother is ready to bear the title, he should be ready to bear the responsibilities that come with it.
