Insurance Worker Got Flowers From a Customer She’d Only Talked to on the Phone—Then He Showed Up at Her Office

Yes, people…there is such a thing as coming on too strong if you’re interested in someone.
Especially when you first meet them!
You don’t want to scare them off and have them running for the hills.
You gotta let it marinate and leave them wanting more, you know what I’m saying?
Good, now that we have that out of the way, check out what the woman who wrote this story had to say about a client who tried to get a little too close to her in a hurry.

A phone conversation with a client led to a stalker.
“This story is from when I was 19. I’m 24 now but looking back it could’ve ended much worse.
It started when a client had sent me flowers and chocolate after I helped him over the phone.
At the time I was working as an office manager for an insurance company and phone calls usually came to me first.
It seemed nice…
It was a very nice gesture, especially considering I always loved flowers and coincidentally my favorite kind were included in the bouquet (carnations at the time),but I wasn’t sure how to respond.
It came with a little message on the card that reads a bit more than a simple ‘thank you’.
The message read: “Eternally grateful to the most patient, kind, and respectful [my position at work] I have ever met. Thank you for being so gentle and composed, you truly deserve the name [my name]

She was confused at first.
I really appreciated it but it made me blush in a confused way.
Reading it, I thought that it came from my boyfriend at the time until I read who it was signed by.
My coworker and my boss kept making jokes about how he’s young and well-off (we provided services for his dad’s construction company).
She wasn’t sure what to do.
I literally only talked to him once on the phone yesterday and it felt like a regular conversation. He had a question about billing and I answered. We’ve never seen each other in person at that point.
It seemed like too much.
I wasn’t sure on what to do or how to take it. Should I call and say thank you or is that inappropriate? Was I misreading it as a romantic gesture?
I wasn’t used to that kind of thing.
This is pretty confusing…
I had looked up the flower shop he sent them from and he had spent at least a significant amount of money, not including the delivery.
Some days had passed and I soon found out that it was indeed a romantic gesture.
I came in later for work one day and he had left a message on the office phone asking me to a local flower garden show.
I want to emphasize that we had never seen each other in real life, by the way. So he’s asking me out purely based off of my voice and perceived kindness from answering his insurance related question.
Wow…this guy is strange…
He came in two days in a row to see if he could catch me and we managed to meet for the first time.
After he introduced himself, he very promptly told me that he was “surprised to find out” that I’m black.
Which wasn’t weird because the insurance agency I work for specifically has a strong tie to the Polish community so he also rightfully assumed I was also Polish.
But he then said that I speak surprisingly eloquently…
Dude…
Sorry, but saying that as a follow up to finding out that I’m black is about one of the stupidest things you could say.
I turned down his offer and that was the end of that, so I thought, but then he began waiting for me in the parking lot of my job. Sometimes to try and speak me to me, other times to just watch.
