Diner Customers Shamed a Single Mom for Bringing Her 1-Year-Old Son Out to Eat—Until Someone Stood Up for Her

I tend to say this quite a bit, but what ever happened to people minding their own business?
It really seems like a lost art these days.
And if something trivial doesn’t affect your life, just leave it alone!
That advice sounds good, but we all know it ain’t gonna happen…
In today’s story, a single mom talked about the encounter she had in a diner that made her upset…because some strangers were getting on her case about her baby.
Take a look at what happened.
AITA for taking my one year old out to eat before he is talking?
“I am a 32F with a son 1M.
I am a single parent and while dad lives in town, he doesn’t help very often. Tonight I took my son to a busy diner. We had someone to meet at 7 close by so it made sense to just eat out. I got a burger and he got a cheese taquito.
Behind our table was a party of three having a relaxing evening coffee. This place is not just a good diner but known for its coffee drinks as well. I believe my son was behaving very well. He didn’t fuss at all waiting for the food, playing with some toys.
When the food came he tried one bite of the taquito and absolutely loved it! So when he would finish a piece, he would whine for the next, which I would break off and hand to him.
Uh oh…
Pretty quickly the party behind us shot us some looks.
They expressed that it’s rude to go out to eat before my son can say “more” as they have to hear fussing every few minutes.
What a dumb thing to say.
They also expressed that “back in Vermont people were more mindful” (I live in South Carolina, where this diner was).
Finally, they questioned why I brought him out at all if I wasn’t with someone to be sharing the dinner with, which felt lowkey misogynistic, to be honest.
These people are RUDE.
Most of the comments were coming from one of the two women but the man seemed to chime in that they should make restaurants for toddlers to practice in.
I felt like they were kind of in the wrong and being total gossips at a minimum but was I a jerk for not waiting longer for my son to eat in a restaurant that was that busy?
Also, to other parents, is it wrong for me to immediately give him more food as he vocalizes if it’s gonna bother people?”

This woman deserves a break!
And, in my humble opinion, these folks were out of line.
Get a life, people!
These folks need to learn to mind their own business!
