AITA for taking up 3 parking spots?
“I (M30) work in an industry that has me driving around my area to different businesses.
I usually drive around 150 miles everyday and go to approximately 6-7 businesses. I go to grocery stores, restaurants, banks, daycares, gas stations etc.
When I arrive at the my destination I have to spend about 10-15 minutes in my truck filling out paperwork, getting materials ready for the job, calling my office for job details etc.
I usually try to park a little away from business, when the weather allows, so that I can turn off my AC and open the doors while I’m doing my work tasks. I do this in order to save money on gas and to be more environmentally conscious.
Well, at least he realizes it…
I realize that opening up my doors and taking up 3 spots isn’t the most considerate thing to do so I try to park away from cars and busy areas of the parking lot, and always take three spots that are free in the middle or the back of the lot.
I also always try to think of others and don’t open my doors and take three spots if it’s a busy area and more than 50% of the parking spots are taken.
Today I was doing my normal routine, in a parking lot that was 80% empty. I was outside of my truck on my phone getting Google directions to my next job (for the life of me I couldn’t get service inside of my car) this is when a lady tries to park next to me while my doors are open.
Go somewhere else!
She makes eye contact with me and is pointing at my open door and is saying something behind her closed window. I tell her that I’m airing out my truck and point to 50+ parking spots all around the parking lot.
There were 3 open spots on my driver side, one on my passenger side, a car in the parking spot in front of me and pretty much an open row of parking on either side of the car in the row in front of me and in the row behind me.
The lady proceeds to give me a such an angry look, that I thought would cause me to spontaneously combust, and drives around and parks to the left of the car in the row in front of me.
Gets out of the car and proceeds to take pictures of my truck and me. I saw her taking pictures and said “Hello ma’am, is everything okay?”
What was this all about…?
She ignores me the first time and the second time after a repeat myself, after which I take out my phone and take a video of her taking photos of me. She then again gives me an angry look and walks away.
I’m a pretty considerate and selfless person, I try to think of other and not inconvenience anyone around me. At the same time I feel like people are becoming increasingly entitled and self centered (aka, I’m the main character).
Why do you have to park right next to me, there’s so much parking everywhere else, it’s a free public parking lot, why be angry at me when there’s so many other places to park.”
