He Called the Cops on a School’s Year-End Party for Being Too Loud—and Now the Whole Town Hates Him

When you live near a school, you have to expect that you will hear the kids playing and shouting from time to time.
What would you do if the school was being especially loud with music and other noises one day for their end-of-the-year party?
That is what happened to the guy in this story, so he called the school to complain, and when they wouldn’t keep the noise down, he called the police non-emergency number to try to get it addressed.
Personally, I think that if you live near a school, you have to expect some noise. Read through the full story below and see if you think he was out of line.
AITAH I called a school about their loud music and the non emergency number to complain.
I thought it was a summer program doing their typical shenanigans but no, it’s the actual school admin throwing a last day of the school year party on the playground.
It sounds like pretty normal school activities.
This just happened a few minutes ago.
The playground has a shared wall with a bunch of houses and their backyards. Music is blasting and a PA system with a man loudly directing the kids through a mic.
Being loud for a few hours during the day is no big deal.
I called the office to complain and their response was that it was the last day of school and the party is from 8-11am. I complained to the non emergency line too which is probably over the top.
It’s a Friday, I get it, most people are at work but I work a little later. And yeah, maybe it’s morning me writing this right now but it doesn’t seem crazy to think other choices could have been made on the school’s end.
What does gender have to do with this?
I’ve worked at schools before and I happen to be a man, but I know some choices made by male admin are sometimes completely void of common sense.
The ENTIRE playground to use for a PA system and the man directing this party puts it near a shared wall at the very end of the playground?
Almost every school has a ‘field day’ of some sort, and many schools are run by women, so this guy is just wrong.
No woman in a school admin role would do this.
Am I the in the wrong to be mad? I’ve lost 3 hours of sleep now and gotta go to work soon.
AITA?
Yes, this guy is complaining about something that is just a normal part of living near a school. You have to expect some noise like this to happen.

The school has every right to make some noise.

This guy thinks that there is no reason he should be complaining.

The school is undoubtedly following the noise ordinances.

I agree with this commenter completely.

What kind of person demands that a school remain silent during school hours? This guy has some weird expectations.
And that is to say nothing about his odd claims that a woman wouldn’t let the school be loud for a field day.
