Family trips are meant to be fun for little children not dramatic.

The following story is about a woman who chose not to invite her sister-in-law on her son’s Hollywood Make-A-Wish trip.

The reason was that her husband didn’t really like her SIL’s partner.

However, SIL later invited herself after learning they would be visiting the city where she sometimes lives.

Now, she’s torn between keeping it a family-only event and allowing her SIL to join them on the trip.

My husband’s sister is in a relationship with a guy that my husband wants nothing to do with.

This guy rents an apartment in LA and lives there part time, and so, by extension, does my sister-in-law.

My 10-year-old son chose Hollywood for his Make-A-Wish trip.

I did not extend the invite to my SIL, but she invited herself later on, putting us in an awkward position.

This woman was wondering if not inviting her SIL makes her the bad guy.

AITA for not inviting her in the first place since we are going to be in the city she lives in part time?

My husband doesn’t want her involved.

He doesn’t want to risk getting somehow mixed up with her manipulative partner or giving him fuel or something.

I’m constantly being placed between them due to this relationship, and it sucks.

I don’t think OP was obligated to invite her sister-in-law simply because the trip happened to be in her city.

This was her son’s special trip, and it makes sense that she wanted to avoid bringing unnecessary relationship drama into it.

SIL inviting herself only made an already complicated family situation even more uncomfortable.
