The School Wouldn’t Reveal the Field Trip Destination—She Demanded to Know, But Other Parents Said She Overreacted

Field trips are a great way to break up the routine for students and given them a great opportunity to learn.
What would you do if your child came home with a permission slip for a field trip with their school, but the permission slip didn’t list the destination for the trip? And, to make it worse, when you called the school, they refused to give you the location.
That is what the mother in this story was dealing with, so she kept escalating the issue to try to figure it out, but another parent said that she was making a big deal out of nothing.
Personally, I can see why she wanted to know. Who would let their kids go somewhere without knowing the location? Read through the full story below and see what you think.
Put in a complaint about my kids school
So, I had another parent tell me I was making a “mountain out of a molehill” about this issue:
Let’s see what the issue is.
My kids (twins, 10yo) have been sent home with a note regarding an excursion for their class, along with the ones above and below them.
This note does not state the location of the excursion, only the road it is on (which is a very long rural road).
Things are getting shady.
When I asked the principal about the location I was told “oh I can’t recall the address I’ll have to get back to you”.
A few days later I asked the office staff and was told “it’s all above board but I have been told I’m not allowed to tell parents”.
What is with all the secrecy?
I followed that up with an email to the principal asking for the location only to get back “a risk assessment has been done” (not answering my question at all).
I put in a formal complaint to the level above the principal.
Parents shouldn’t have to investigate this type of thing.
My children then told me their teacher showed them where the excursion was being held on Google Maps a few days before while in class, but that they couldn’t remember where it was (and couldn’t find it when they looked on Google Maps for it).
Another parent, in the same time period, managed to get the actual information from the principal.
The school is the one making this into a bigger issue. They could have just provided the information.
We were updating things on a group chat with a few other parents when the “mountain out of a molehill” comment was made by a parent who’s child is not part of the group going to this excursion.
Am I making mountains out a molehill over not being answered when I ask where my children are supposed to be going?
AITA?
It seems that any parent would be concerned in this situation. The way the school was acting seems very shady, so it is good that this parent followed up.
Read on to see what the people in the comments have to say about it.
Here is someone who thinks the principal is in the wrong.

This person says that parents have every right to know where their kids are, but schools don’t always listen.

Sometimes schools just don’t think things through.

This commenter says it is not acceptable at all.

What kind of school thinks that this is ok?

What kind of school refuses to tell parents where their kids are going to be? This is beyond shady and should not be tolerated at all, but some people just don’t care.
I’m surprised that the rest of the parents haven’t stepped in to say something, though.
