Working in a fast-paced customer service job is TOUGH.
You constantly run around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to make everyone happy and it can lead to some serious burnout.
And the fact is, those jobs are not for everyone.
You have to learn to keep your cool and not let the little things get to you…which can be easier said than done.
The server who wrote this story finally had enough and she lived to tell the tale!
Check out what she had to say.
Today I lasted 30 minutes at work before crashing out.
“I work at an airport lounge as a server in a massive tourism destination in Europe.
American Express “Priority Pass” has been a total disgrace to our service, the lounge is packed at all times with infinite queues and we’re severely understaffed.
I’ve been working my rear end off, trying to compensate for coworkers who have been slacking off for the entire season. I just needed to work during the summer to sustain myself during nursing school.
This is not a good working environment at all…
We have just lost 4 staff members, one of them even quit losing all unemployment benefits. I gave 110% trying to do several things at once but it’s never enough, people just enter and sit on dirty tables, babies never stop crying.
Yesterday I learned that my next month shifts are double and my days off have been cut off and I just couldn’t handle it. I showed up at work with basically no sleep, having smoked and drank too much to cope with the stress.
It was gonna be a bad day…
After 30 minutes I gave up, I was shaking and couldn’t function as a normal human being.
The airport doctor diagnosed me with hypertension and a panic attack, I left and my boss just yelled at me on the phone.
I’m at a loss of words, I’ve had many summer jobs in warehouses and stores and I’ve never experienced something like this.
Screw this!
I’m never going to hold a tray as a waiter or work at an airport ever in my life. Clinicals in the hospital seem easy game in comparison.
I feel very guilty but should I feel this way or just accept that my body just shut down and burnout is a real thing?
I feel so sad.
No one wants to work in hospitality anymore in my country.”

And this individual weighed in.

Well, it’s a good thing that she’s moving on from this place…
Because it sounds like she probably wasn’t cut out for it.
Not to mention that this establishment wasn’t run very well!
This job was definitely not worth the stress!
