Employees deserve clear communication when their roles and pay rates change at work.

In this story, a restaurant employee discovered that her manager had switched her role.

She also discovered that her pay grade had changed.

When she questioned it, management doubled down instead of taking responsibility for the confusion.

Do you think this is fair? Check out the full details below.

My manager changed my role during my shift to the lesser paid one…?

I work in a restaurant, and I have four roles.

I don’t usually mind, but it can be annoying to suddenly have to mentally switch at the very last minute.

Last night, I had a notification from my scheduling app.

My manager had switched my role.

It’s a higher pay grade and more challenging.

This employee discovered that even her pay grade had been changed.

He told me I’d be doing a mix between the higher role and a lower role.

He said to switch between the different tasks. It turns out they didn’t need certain tasks.

But I found out he switched my pay grade without telling me.

I argued that it’s not my problem they miscalculated.

They’ve doubled down. Is this kind of absurd?

Honestly, it sounds frustrating to learn that your role and pay grade have been changed at the last minute.

OP should have been given enough time to accept or reject the changes.

What she should do moving forward is ask management for written agreement about the correct role, duties, and compensation.

Doing multiple jobs is one thing, but getting your pay grade changed without notice is another.
