Located in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium, the Lion’s Mound is a large conical hill with a lion statue at the peak that commemorates the location on the battlefield of Waterloo where a musket ball struck William II of the Netherlands (the Prince of Orange) in the shoulder.
A stave church is a medieval wooden Christian church building style once common in northwestern Europe. In Norway there are 28 extant stave churches still standing today and this particular one in Borgund features a triple nave and is said to be the best preserved of them all.
Aggstein Castle is a ruined castle situated on the right bank of the Danube in Wachau, Austria. The castle dates back to the 12th century and is perched about 300 meters (980 ft) above the Danube.
