Warren Buffett and Bill Gates Pick Up Shift at Dairy Queen
During Berkshire Hathaway’s 2019 annual meeting in Omaha, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett broke away to Dairy Queen for some lunch and to learn about restaurant training. Warren Buffett has been a loyal Dairy Queen customer for decades, and Berkshire Hathaway actually acquired the restaurant chain in 1998 so Buffett could “put his money where his mouth is.”
The business giants were particularly struck by how Dairy Queen serves one of their most popular menu items, the Blizzard. Each treat is presented to customers upside down, proving the product is so thick that it defies gravity. This piece of fast food performance art is not only fun but, as a DQ executive once explained, “thinking differently and celebrating an upside-down philosophy runs deep in the DQ system.”
The pair also learned how to work the cash register, greet customers, and make soft-serve treats. You can read more about their visit on Bill Gates’ blog.
