Ute Lennartz-Lembeck knit this rainbow sweater for a weeping willow in the German town of Velbert. She is one of many Germans caught up in the global craze of “yarn bombing,” installing colorful yarn creations in urban spaces.

Yarn bombing is also known as yarnstorming, guerrilla knitting, or graffiti knitting. While yarn installations may last for years, they are considered non-permanent, and, unlike graffiti, can be easily removed if necessary. Nonetheless, the practice is still technically illegal, though it is not often prosecuted vigorously. It is believed to have originated in Texas. [Source: Wikipedia]
