Located along the Mendocino coast of California, USA, Bowling Ball Beach is located about three miles south of Point Arena, where Schooner Gulch Road intersects State Highway 1. Until recently there were two trailheads from this location. The Southern trail still leads visitors to Schooner Gulch Beach. However, the northern trail, which was recently closed due to erosion used to lead you to the fascinating place you see above, Bowling Ball Beach. While the official trail is closed, I believe you can still visit, but you do so at your own risk.

The unique stone orbs that give this beach its name are quite visible during low tide (high tide not so much) and are known to geologists as concretions. Concretions are hard bodies that for a variety of reasons can form in sediment before they become sedimentary rocks [Source].

There’s a great review on Yelp for those interested in visiting. The writer provided paragraphs of info so it’s worth checking if you’re interested in seeing in person 🙂
