Cashier Finally Got Tired Of Their Store Being Understaffed And Their Manager Not Helping Out, So They Vented To A Regular Customer

Hey, not every customer out there is a total jerk!

In fact, sometimes an understanding customer is the thing that helps a worker get through the day!

Imagine having a really tough day at work, and then you see one of your regular customers. Would you feel comfortable enough to tell them how you really felt about your job?

The employee in this story did just that! Let’s read all the details.

Blew up bad at a customer.

“Approaching Christmas season + severe understaffing that’s lasted several months = ?

Well I’ll tell you what it means.

It’s not pretty, folks!

Constantly busy. Constantly head down and scanning things. No time for small talk because that slows you down, and when you’re slow, the queue gets bigger.

Then people complain, then you have to call for checkout help. That’d be fine if people actually responded to those calls for help, but nope.

What happens when the lines are too big? People take their $300 carts through self-checkout, or express, and choke those up, too.

Now everything’s choked up and you again try and call for help.

A whopping one person shows up, and takes a staggering one customer through. Big help.

This sounds like a nightmare.

Everyone on the registers is stressed, and the employee running self-checkout is running their loops around the machines. “Excuse me!”‘s and “Please wait for assistance.”‘s everywhere.

You get your cardio in there, let me tell you.

It means staff morale is down. WAY down. There isn’t a shift where I don’t feel bad for at least half of it.

I thought I could muscle through it, but today I snapped.

This employee was really upset with how the manager handled the situation.

It’s only mildly busy, but there’s a customer with a large cart waiting in line, so I figure I call for help so nobody’s waiting 10 minutes.

The manager storms out, shakes her head at me, and directs the customer, with a 3/4 full cart… to the express registers.

Doesn’t check them out herself, oh no, she shoves them to the person in express, and wanders back into the office.

That’s it. I can’t handle it anymore. I’m shaking, seething, appalled and seeing red.

And then a regular shows up, recognizes me, and asks me how I am.

No more Mr. Nice Guy…

Me: “Oh, busy. And I would be getting people through quicker if my team actually gave a care and actually did something instead of doing paperwork that could be done later, and served the customers that they are managers of, but no, they decide to shove a $300 to the express lane and walk off. “So SICK of this store and I’m so SICK of this department. I’m OVER it. I’m SO DONE with this nonsense.”

The regular just laughed and patted me on the shoulder.

I apologized about the rant, but she brushed it off saying that it’s needed sometimes.

What’s funny is all of this happened after I had met with the boss, and told him I wanted to switch departments. I told him I just needed something new, but the lack of help from the managers should have been testament to why I feel the need to switch.

I wonder how the already understaffed service team will handle one more switching departments.”

Was it wrong for the employee to rant to a regular customer, or was it needed?

Let’s see what folks had to say about this on Reddit.
