He’s So Burned Out at His IT Job That the Thought of Returning After a Long Weekend Brought Him to Tears—And With the Job Market as Tight as It Is, He Feels Trapped With No Way Out

Man, this is pretty sad…
A lot of people get the “Sunday Scaries” when it’s time to go back to work after a relaxing weekend, right?
Absolutely!
But there aren’t too many who get so upset about the prospect of walking back into work after a break that they end up crying.
That’s when you know it’s time to look for a new job…
Check out what the guy who wrote this story had to say about how much he dreads returning to his workplace.
First time in my life I cried over going into work after a three day weekend. Never thought as a adult I’d get to that point.
“I’ve been trying to get out of my job for a year now.
I’ve been aggressively applying to jobs, doing many resume revisions, seeing career counselors, going to networking events, etc.
How frustrating…
So many rejections or getting ghosted after interviews and phone screenings.
Recently I thought I was so close.
Had a good run of interviews and phone screenings and hearing nothing back. Getting ghosted and rejected left and right.
In the past I had no issues getting out of a bad job, in fact I felt confident in my ability to interview and navigate job searching.
This sounds rough.
I work in tech. I am currently working in K-12 an it is awful. I am the sole tech at the school and I’ve never had such a thankless, overwhelming job.
I can’t barely take a sick day without things falling apart. I am so stretched thin I can never keep up. Things slip through the cracks and then I get the blame.
I got burned out only 6 months into the role. About a year ago I hit my limit and I’ve been dying inside ever since. There is no “silent quitting” and there is no break.
Right now we are doing testing and I am so stressed out running like a nut to make things happen. Then right after graduation I have a building pile of projects and yearly tasks I have to aggressively tackle to keep above water.
Being overwhelmed like this is just too much…
I don’t think it is worth sharing more about the job, but I am just beyond done and have been incredibly depressed.
Usually it hits me the hardest on the first 2-3 days of the week. I get that pit in my stomach that I only get when I am really depressed.
The hope of getting out when things start looking up and then the massive dip after rejections is so hard.
I am not sure how much longer I can keep this up, but I am mostly trapped in this role due to needing health insurance and the pay. I make 55k, which is so low for 6 years in IT, but I can’t even get a lateral job (like a tech support role) that pays similarly.
It’s tough out there…
It just is so brutal right now.
Anyway, I almost wept Monday night and had to fight back tears most of yesterday at work.
I’ve never had such strong feelings towards work. But in the past I had a much easier time leaving a bad work environment.
I’ve even considered leaving IT all together, but I can’t afford to make less then what I currently make. Perseverance is the only thing I can think of. Keep applying hoping that something finally works out.
I’ve been seeing a therapist weekly and it helps, but I just feel like I am in this horrible limbo until I can escape this job.”
