Dog Scratched Someone AITAH?

I injured my ankle badly a few weeks back. I still walk with a brace and limp a lot.

I was walking my dog. We were going back home to my apartment.

I was about five feet away from my apartment when I saw my dog start looking back.

He was getting agitated, but not in an aggressive way. He is 12 months old and loves people.

This man’s dog jumped on the stranger and scratched him on the arm.

I turned back. I saw a dude essentially speed walking towards us. He was quite far away.

I told my dog to leave it and pulled him closer.

I got to my door. I was trying to use my fob to get inside.

This dude tried to squeeze past us. The corridor was narrow.

My dog jumped on him and scratched his arm.

If he wasn’t injured, he would have been able to pull his dog harder.

Had I not been injured, I would have been more capable.

I would have been able to immediately pull him back.

I had to put much more weight on my injured ankle. I am not comfortable with that at the moment.

It really hurts right now.

He apologized, but the stranger said it was unacceptable.

Realistically, even if I was not injured, he invaded my dog’s personal space.

I am talking inches. I could not have prevented this.

I asked, “Did he scratch you? I am really sorry.”

This dude started giving me attitude. He said it is unacceptable. He showed me his arm.

I could not see any injuries.

So he snapped back and told him that it was his fault for trying to invade their personal space.

I said, “No. What is unacceptable is you seeing me struggle. I was unable to walk. I was limping my way to my door. You clearly saw my dog get excited. You saw me trying to hold him back. Instead of giving me like four seconds to open my door, you thought it was wise to squeeze past us.”

It is a lack of situational awareness at this point.

He was mumbling.

I also apologized.

He believes the man’s negligence and lack of common sense brought him to it.

He just muttered something, then he left.

I understand that people do not want dogs jumping on them.

It is not like my dog was off leash. My dog did not go up to him.

Clearly, it was OP’s dog who caused the harm, but it could have been easily avoided if the man didn’t force himself into the narrow hallway.

It was obvious that the stranger ignored obvious signs and made things harder than necessary.

The reaction feels unfair, especially after an apology was already given.
