They Rented a Lake House Together—But His Girlfriend Wants Her Friend to Stay, and He’s Not Happy

Have you ever been in a relationship with someone or friends with a person who constantly invites other people to things?
It could be a dinner, or a concert, or a night out at a bar.
Whatever the case, it can be pretty rude.
Why is it so hard to give someone a heads up?
Or how about asking the other person first…?
What a concept!
In today’s story, a man explained why he wasn’t too happy when his girlfriend wanted to invite a friend of hers to a getaway at a lake house.
Check out what she had to say about this.
AITA for saying no to my girlfriend’s friend staying with us for a week at our rented lake house?
“My girlfriend and I rented a lake house for about 1.5 months.
It’s expensive, and I pay a larger share of the cost.
I’m also an entrepreneur, so I’m still working long days while we’re here. One of the main reasons we rented this place was so I could work and actually have some peace and quiet afterward.
Why…?
Tonight, my girlfriend’s friend called asking if she could stay with us for a week (this week) because she’s stressed after moving in with her boyfriend and sister and wants somewhere to relax.
I said I wasn’t comfortable with a week but suggested 2–3 days instead.
Here’s why this is a bad idea…
My reasons:
– It’s our vacation, not a free Airbnb.
– I need my own space after work.
– We only have one car, and she’d need us to do two 2-hour trips to pick her up and bring her home (about 8 hours of driving total).
There’s also some history.
Ugh…
Her friend is nice enough, but she’s very opinionated about some issues. I’ve made comments in my own home that my girlfriend later mentioned to her, and it ended up creating tension between my girlfriend and me because she strongly disagreed.
She also tends to complain a lot, so I’m not excited about living together for a week.
What makes this feel inconsistent is that when I wanted my brother or cousin to visit for a couple of days just to hang out, my girlfriend was hesitant because there “wasn’t a special reason”.
I respected that.
This works both ways!
So I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say no to a week-long stay from one of her friends.
I wasn’t saying she couldn’t come. I just thought a week was too much and offered 2–3 days as a compromise.
My girlfriend thinks I’m being selfish because her friend needs a break.
AITA?”

If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a sister who let her brother maintain a shared car for years, and doesn’t want to start doing it herself now that he has his own car.
And this person didn’t hold back.

I would’ve reacted the same way.
Hell no!
Some people just don’t realize that this is pretty darn rude…
You can’t blame him for not wanting this buzzkill around…
